My ‘Visual Design’ entries for the ‘Taiwan International Student Design Competition 2017’ has finally been submitted. I am excited to share some of my designs here and how they reflect on this year’s competition theme of ‘Opportunity’.
Official Description for this piece:
“Flowers can show signs of bruising and blemishes sometimes. To pick beautiful flowers, we focus on avoiding ones with such imperfections. Sometimes we are so intent on seeking blemishes that that becomes our only concern. We stop seeing the real beauty, opportunity and potential in our environment. The healthy flower in the centre of the poster is bursting out from the wilting petals surrounding it. In a way, the flower is bursting out from preconceptions of perfection.”
‘Bruising and Blemishes’ was the first of three poster designs that I submitted. This is a digital collage piece that incorporates my own personal photographic works and paint textures. I used the font ‘Futura’ mainly because of its geometric letterform and naturally generous spatial composition. Additionally, the typeface holds up well amongst quite ‘loud’ visuals.
